After watching a small part of President Biden’s bewildering performance Thursday night, I was struck by how angry he was. Some have suggested that this is a natural by-product of his encroaching senility, or perhaps the side effects from whatever drugs they pumped him up on to get him through the speech. It was probably a little bit of both, but I also think it revealed the real (lack of) character of the man, and the strategy of his handlers.
Upon reflection, I was struck by how much his speech followed the blueprint of the famous “2-minute hates” from Orwell’s novel “1984.” If you read it or watch the (1984) movie adaption, you will see that the daily hate sessions were focused on stirring up hatred of two main antagonists: the horrible people of Eurasia (or East Asia depending on who the current enemy was), and the insidious followers of Goldstein, a homegrown terrorist who was threatening to bring down the regime.
Substitute the names Russia for Eurasia and Trump for Goldstein and you have a perfect match. Biden started his speech with a pitch that if we don’t send billions more arms to Ukraine that the Russian Bear will not stop until it has swept away the rest of Europe and the Free World. No wonder they were so angry about Tucker’s interview with Putin, exposing him as not quite as crazy as they would like to paint him.
Next Biden turned on Trump with a series of baldfaced lies. He accused the former President of bowing down to Putin and being behind a weakening of the United States position in the world. Have you looked in a mirror lately Joe?
Then he tried to trump up the Jan. 6 protests as the biggest threat to Freedom and Democracy in this country since the Civil War. I guess that’s why they sat on the videos of the protest that showed people being escorted through the Capitol by the police and politely staying within the rope lines like tourists. Hint to Joe: That’s not the way real insurrectionists behave.
But of course they don’t care. Their only hope for re-election is to keep lying about everything like some kind of “dog-faced pony soldier” to coin a phrase, hoping there are enough brainwashed people to believe the crap they are selling.
Four years ago Biden ran as the moderate who was going to bring us all together. I guess that’s all gone out the window now that there is an election to win. The current strategy seems to be: vote for the angry old man or else! Not sure that’s going to be a winner.
